Stortbeat Records est fondé en 1978 par Richard Holgarth et Billy Meadows tous deux membres des Gangsters et les deux Sods Kevin Jones et Shane Roe. En 79, le label indépendant  d'Harlow converti au DIY accompagne la scène punk locale et produit sept singles et EPs ainsi que l'album éponyme des Gangsters... En 2004, Handsignal Recordings édite cette compilation reprenant le catalogue de Stortbeat avec des enregistrements inédits, des maquettes de singles qui n'ont pas vu le jour chez Stortbeat... Must Have...
